The white counterpart to Domaine Clavel's Regulus, both named after the brightest star in the constellation of Leo. White Côtes du Rhône is a small fraction of the appellation's output and is worth seeking out.
Tasting Notes
Pale gold with bright reflections. A nose of white peach, pear and citrus, lifted by white flowers and a light anise note. Rounded and generous on the palate with stone fruit and a soft, almost waxy texture, held together by fresh acidity and closing with a faintly mineral, herbal edge. The southern Rhône white grapes give body and perfume rather than sharpness, which makes this a white for food rather than for an aperitif.
