Bonnes Mares is the powerful one. Where Chambolle-Musigny is famous for perfume and lace, this grand cru sits at the northern end of the village and gives something broader and darker, a wine that takes years to unwind and rewards the wait.
Tasting Notes
An intense bouquet of dark berries, violets and forest floor, leading to a structured and expressive palate. There is real power here alongside the finesse, which is the signature of the vineyard rather than the winemaking. The fifteen hectares of Bonnes Mares straddle the boundary between Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis and contain two distinct soils, the pale limestone-rich terres blanches and the iron-red terres rouges. Wines from here are built for the long haul and are usually closed in youth.

About the Producer
Maison Joseph Drouhin was founded in Beaune in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, who had arrived from Chablis at the age of 22. His son Maurice bought the Clos des Mouches in 1921 and began building the family's own vineyard holdings, and Robert Drouhin, who took over in 1957, added parcels in many of Burgundy's greatest grand crus. The house is run today by the fourth generation, Frédéric, Véronique, Philippe and Laurent, from cellars beneath the old town of Beaune dug between the 13th and 18th centuries. Every estate vineyard has been farmed organically and biodynamically since 1993, making Drouhin the largest biodynamic producer in Burgundy.
