About this wine
Savigny-lès-Beaune is one of the last places in the Côte de Beaune where you can still buy genuinely good red Burgundy without the name inflating the price, and Clos des Godeaux is a single vineyard within it.
Serve slightly chilled at 14 to 16°C to highlight its finesse and aromatics.
Tasting notes
Bright ruby red. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry and violet with a touch of spice and earthiness. Light to medium bodied on the palate with silky tannins and fresh acidity, showing red berries, forest floor and subtle oak before a graceful finish. The clay-limestone soils and good sun exposure of the Clos des Godeaux site give a Pinot Noir that is expressive young rather than demanding patience.
Goes with
Roast chicken or duck, mushroom risotto, truffle dishes, charcuterie, grilled salmon or tuna, and mild cheeses.

The producer
Maison Joseph Drouhin was founded in Beaune in 1880 by Joseph Drouhin, who had arrived from Chablis at the age of 22. His son Maurice bought the Clos des Mouches in 1921 and began building the family's own vineyard holdings, and Robert Drouhin, who took over in 1957, added parcels in many of Burgundy's greatest grand crus. The house is run today by the fourth generation, Frédéric, Véronique, Philippe and Laurent, from cellars beneath the old town of Beaune dug between the 13th and 18th centuries. Every estate vineyard has been farmed organically and biodynamically since 1993, making Drouhin the largest biodynamic producer in Burgundy.
