Almaza | Un-Filtered
Description

Almaza means diamond, and it has been the beer of Lebanon since 1933, still brewed in Baouchrieh between Beirut and Jounieh. Unfiltered is the brewery's bolder expression of its flagship pilsner: a Bohemian style pils left cloudy and unfined, so the yeast and wheat proteins stay in the bottle instead of being stripped out. At 6.6% it carries noticeably more weight than the classic Almaza, and the brewery makes no apology for it.

Tasting Notes

Hazy gold in the glass with a thick, slow settling head. The nose is bold and yeasty with fresh bread dough, grain and a grassy hop lift. The palate is fuller and rounder than a filtered pilsner, with cereal sweetness up front, a soft cloudy texture through the middle and a crisp, herbal bitterness on the finish that keeps it drinkable despite the strength. Best served properly cold.

Food Pairing

Made for a Lebanese table. Serve with mezze, grilled halloumi, batata harra, spiced lamb or anything off the charcoal. Also holds its own against burgers and salty fried food.

Country & Region
