Campotino Montepulciano D&
Description

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo made in concrete rather than oak, which is why it tastes of the place rather than the cellar. Fresh, savoury and built for the table.

Tasting Notes
A Mediterranean and fruity framework on the nose, with black olives, dried prune and dark currants over an undergrowth shadow. Easy drinking and flowing on the palate, fresh and sapid, well extracted with young tannins. Fermented in concrete tanks from grapes grown at 250 metres, so there is no oak here at all and the olive and scrubland character comes through undisguised.

Quick Facts

  • Grape: 100% Montepulciano
  • Origin: Italy, Abruzzo (vineyards at 250m in the Pescara hills)
  • Style: Dry red, unoaked, fresh and savoury
  • Winemaking: Fermented and raised in concrete tanks

Food Pairing
Risotto, grilled vegetables, game, and lamb.

Serving
Serve at 14 to 16°C. Good gently chilled.

About the Producer
Tenuta del Priore was founded in 1973 by the Mazzocchetti cousins and named after their grandfather Vincenzo, whom locals called the Prior. The estate sits in the rolling hills that run from the Apennines down to the Adriatic coast near Pescara, and Campotino is its everyday range.
