About this wine
Krug Rosé was created in 1983 and caused something of a scandal in the house, since rosé was then considered frivolous. It is built the same way as Grande Cuvée, as a multi-vintage blend, with a macerated Pinot Noir component for colour and structure.
Serve at 10 to 12°C, in a white wine glass rather than a flute.
Tasting notes
Elegant pale pink with fine, persistent bubbles. Wild berries, rose petals, citrus, pastry and subtle spice. Refined and complex on the palate with red fruit, citrus, a delicate tannic grip and a long, vibrant finish. The maceration is what separates this from most rosé Champagne, which is usually made by adding still red wine to the blend, and it gives the wine a structure and savoury edge that outlasts the fruit.
Goes with
Duck, salmon, sushi, delicate game dishes, and refined desserts.

The producer
Krug was founded in Reims in 1843 by Joseph Krug, who left an established house because he believed Champagne should transcend the vintage rather than be defined by it. The house ferments every plot separately in small oak casks and keeps an extensive library of reserve wines, some decades old, from which each édition is assembled.
