About this wine
A Chardonnay from Calcarius in Puglia, made with zero added sulphur on the calcareous limestone Murge plateau, a southern Italian Chardonnay that trades tropical weight for mineral precision, expressing the terroir rather than the variety's more obvious international character.
Open 10 minutes before serving.
Tasting notes
Pale gold. Chardonnay on calcareous limestone from a latitude where the variety can easily become over-ripe and heavy, Valentina Passalacqua's zero-sulphur, minimal-intervention approach keeps it fresh, precise, and mineral. White stone fruit, citrus, and a chalk-mineral backbone on the nose. Clean and textured on the palate with good natural acidity and a dry, persistent finish. Named Kunzite for the pink gemstone, though the wine is white.
Goes with
Grilled fish, seafood, light pasta, and soft cheeses.

The producer
Calcarius is the natural wine project of Valentina Passalacqua, made from organic Falanghina, Nero di Troia, Bombino Bianco, and other indigenous varieties grown on the ancient calcareous limestone soils of the Murge plateau in northern Puglia. The estate name comes from the Latin for limestone, reflecting the character of the terroir in every wine.
