Description

Les Forts de Latour is the second wine of Château Latour, created in 1966 and taken seriously enough that it is often ranked alongside classed growths in its own right rather than treated as an also-ran.

Tasting Notes
A symphony of cassis, graphite and cedar, leading to a structured palate that pays homage to Pauillac's grandeur. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates, giving the same graphite and blackcurrant signature as the Grand Vin in a more approachable frame. It comes largely from plots outside l'Enclos, the walled vineyard reserved for the first wine, and like the Grand Vin it is only released when the estate judges it ready.

Quick Facts

  • Grapes: Cabernet Sauvignon dominant, with Merlot and Cabernet Franc
  • Origin: France, Bordeaux, Pauillac
  • Style: Dry red, structured, age worthy
  • Status: The second wine of Château Latour, first made in 1966

Food Pairing
Roast beef, lamb, game, and aged hard cheeses.

Serving
Serve at 17 to 18°C. Decant an hour and a half before pouring.

About the Producer
Château Latour is one of the five first growths of Bordeaux, classified in 1855, and takes its name from the tower that stands in its vineyard. It lies at the southern edge of Pauillac on deep gravel beside the Gironde estuary. Since 2012 the estate has released its wines only when they are approaching drinkability rather than selling them as futures.
