About this wine
L'Évangile sits on the Pomerol plateau between Pétrus and Cheval Blanc, which is about the best address in the world for Merlot, and has been owned by the Rothschilds of Lafite since 1990.
Decant at least an hour before pouring. Will keep and improve for twenty years and more.
Tasting notes
Rich and velvety, revealing layers of black fruit, truffle and floral hints, culminating in a luxurious palate. Merlot from the clay and gravel of the Pomerol plateau gives extraordinary density and a plush texture, while the Cabernet Franc adds perfume and keeps the wine from becoming merely rich. Pomerol has no classification system, which is why the wines here are judged purely on what is in the glass.
Goes with
Roast beef, lamb, duck, truffle dishes, and aged hard cheeses.

The producer
Château L'Évangile is one of the leading estates of Pomerol, sitting on the plateau between Pétrus and, across the boundary in Saint-Émilion, Cheval Blanc. The property was acquired by Domaines Barons de Rothschild, owners of Château Lafite, in 1990. Pomerol has never been formally classified, so its hierarchy is set entirely by reputation and price.
