Description

Tour des Gendres' flagship red, a Merlot-led blend from warm clay-limestone soils, aged 12 months in barrels and foudres, with the depth and structure to reward years in the cellar.

Tasting Notes

Deep red with violet tints. The nose is very ripe and expressive, with aromas of dark forest fruits, chocolate, liquorice, and violet, alongside an attractive toasty note from barrel ageing. The palate has a generous structure with deep, firm tannins and a lovely natural sweetness. Full bodied, complex, and built to age.

Quick Facts

  • Grapes: 50% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Malbec
  • Origin: France, South West France, Bergerac AOC
  • Style: Dry organic red, barrel aged
  • Winemaking: Full destemming, 30-day fermentation with micro-oxygenation under cap, malolactic fermentation, 12 months in barrels and foudres, further 6 months in stainless steel, minimal filtration

Food Pairing

Confit duck, cassoulet, game pate, and soft washed-rind cheeses are the classic accompaniments. A wine made for slow, generous meals.

Serving

Serve at 16-18°C. Decant for 30 minutes before serving to let the tannins soften and the full complexity emerge.

About the Producer

Chateau Tour des Gendres was created by Luc de Conti, third generation of an Italian family that settled south of Bergerac in 1925. Luc pioneered organic farming in the region from 1996 and was certified in 2009, becoming one of the first in the Bergerac appellation to convert entirely. The 50-hectare estate in Ribagnac sits on clay-limestone soils and produces wines of remarkable purity and character. Today the estate is run by Gilles and Margaux de Conti, continuing Luc's legacy with the same passion and commitment to the land.
