Description

A benchmark Minervois from old vine Carignan, Syrah, and Cinsault on a high limestone plateau, delivering dark fruit, garrigue spice, and a sapid mineral freshness that makes it one of the Languedoc's most honest natural reds.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby-red in the glass. The nose is expressive and layered, with aromas of black raspberry, blueberry, dark cherry, garrigue herbs, floral notes, dark chocolate, and liquorice. On the palate it is deep, ripe, and mineral, with red and black fruits balanced by firm acidity and a supple, well-integrated tannin. The finish is long and refreshing. Not over-extracted, not tannic, just deeply satisfying Languedoc red.

Quick Facts

  • Grapes: Carignan, Syrah, Cinsault (old vines)
  • Origin: France, Languedoc, Minervois AOC (Saint-Jean-de-Minervois, 300m altitude)
  • Style: Dry organic red, aged in vats for a tender, supple character
  • Winemaking: Organically farmed since 1996, old vine parcels on limestone and clay soils, bottled young to preserve freshness

Food Pairing

A natural partner for grilled meats, stews, tagines, and full-flavoured cheeses. Serve slightly cool for a more refreshing experience.

Serving

Serve at 14-16°C. This wine is at its most expressive slightly below room temperature.

About the Producer

Clos du Gravillas is the project of Nicole and John Bojanowski, a Franco-American couple who purchased their 8-hectare estate in Saint-Jean-de-Minervois in 1996. Perched on a limestone and gravel plateau at almost 300 metres altitude, between the Saint Chinian and Minerve canyons, they farm organically with a focus on biodiversity and soil health. John's background in ecology shapes the estate's philosophy, and they work with 18 different grape varieties, including many ancient and forgotten Languedoc varieties. Long associated with the natural wine movement, Clos du Gravillas is distributed by Les Caves de Pyrene and found on some of the world's finest restaurant lists.
