Description

From 50-year-old Folle Blanche vines on sandy schist soils in the Pays Nantais, this is a rare, briny, and utterly refreshing Loire white with a salty, iodine-tinged character all of its own.

Tasting Notes

Pale gold in the glass with a delicate, citrus-forward nose of lemon, white flowers, and a faint sea-breeze freshness. On the palate there is lively acidity, a pleasing mineral salinity, and a touch of prickliness from extended lees ageing. The finish is crisp and lemony with excellent length for such a light wine.

Quick Facts

  • Grape: 100% Folle Blanche (50-year-old vines, Selection Massale)
  • Origin: France, Loire Valley, Pays Nantais (Le Landreau and La Chapelle-Heulin)
  • Style: Dry natural white, biodynamic, low sulphur
  • Winemaking: Manual harvest, cold clarification, fermented in underground stainless steel vats, 8 months ageing on lees, no malolactic fermentation, lightly filtered
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans

Food Pairing

A natural partner for shellfish, oysters, sushi, Asian dishes, and grilled fish. Excellent on its own as a crisp aperitif.

Serving

Serve at 8-10°C. This wine is best enjoyed young and fresh, straight from the fridge.

About the Producer

Domaine Luneau-Papin was founded in the 1990s, uniting two centuries-old winemaking families through the marriage of Pierre Luneau and Monique Papin. Based in Le Landreau in the heart of Muscadet country, the estate has been farming the same land since the early 18th century. Pierre and Monique were pioneers in bottling single-parcel Muscadet, highlighting the diversity of the region's soils. Today their son Pierre-Marie and his wife Marie run the domaine, farming 20 plots biodynamically and producing wines that are widely regarded as among the finest and most terroir-faithful expressions of Muscadet in existence.
