Description

A single-variety Susumaniello from Natalino Del Prete in the Salento, one of Puglia's rarest indigenous red grapes, fermented in cement with indigenous yeast and zero additions to produce a wine of inky depth, spiced dark fruit, and remarkable natural freshness for the latitude.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby-violet in the glass. The nose is expressive and complex with dark cherry, blueberry, dried violet, and a distinctive spice character from the grape. On the palate it is full-bodied with a firm but fine tannin, good natural acidity that gives it real freshness, and a long, savoury, mineral finish. Susumaniello has been called the Nebbiolo of the South — this bottle shows why.

About the Producer
Natalino Del Prete is a small organic estate in Puglia's Gioia del Colle and Salento zones, farming without chemicals on the region's distinctive limestone and clay soils. Best known for his Primitivo, Natalino has quietly built a range of indigenous white and red varieties vinified with absolute minimal intervention that are among the most honest and expressive wines in southern Italy.
