Description

A crisp, salty field blend white from the ancient ungrafted vineyards of Mount Etna, pressed immediately to stainless steel without skin contact and left on its lees for five months, producing a wine of citrus freshness and volcanic mineral character that is Anna Martens at her most approachable.

Tasting Notes
Mid straw gold. White floral aromas with citrus notes of lemon and lime. Crisp and dry on the palate with a fresh acidity, good fruit definition, and an underlying salty, volcanic minerality. Clean and pure, with a slightly smoky finish that is unmistakably Etna.

Quick Facts

  • Grapes: Indigenous field blend (white Etna varieties)
  • Origin: Italy, Sicily, Mount Etna (biodynamic, pre-phylloxera ungrafted vines, north-facing)
  • Style: Dry natural white, no skin contact, zero sulphur, unfiltered
  • Winemaking: Hand harvested from multiple vineyards, whole bunch pressed directly to stainless steel, spontaneous fermentation, malolactic, 5 months on lees, bottled without fining or filtration
  • Suitable for vegetarians and vegans

Food Pairing
Seafood, grilled fish, baked pasta, and fresh cheeses. The volcanic minerality also makes it a natural with Sicilian cuisine.

Serving
Serve at 8-10°C. Best enjoyed young.

About the Producer
Vino di Anna is the project of Anna Martens, an Australian winemaker who arrived on Mount Etna in 2007 and immediately fell in love with the ancient, ungrafted vines on the volcano's north face. Working biodynamically at altitudes between 760 and 1200 metres on pre-phylloxera volcanic soils, she produces wines of compelling purity and mineral depth. Her Palmentino wines take their name from the traditional Sicilian stone pressing troughs still found in the old cantinas of the mountain.
