Arak Blanka begins with one family and three generations of it. More than fifty years ago Halim Bejjani took up the craft of arak making in Lebanon and passed it to his son Robert, who spent forty years refining blends and technique to become a Master Distiller. Robert's son Ramy has since taken over the family business, bringing modern tools to the family method without abandoning it. The name comes from the arak itself, a nod to its pure white colour. Crafted is the Blanka arak in a classic 70 cl bottle, made by ETS. Distillery from Merwah and Obeidi grapes and Heena aniseed, distilled and purified through authentic copper stills.
Tasting Notes
Crystal clear in the bottle, turning milk white the moment water hits it. The aniseed is clean and precise rather than heavy, with the Heena seed giving a sweeter and rounder note than the sharper anise found in industrial arak. Merwah and Obeidi grape spirit sits underneath, giving body without harshness, and the finish is smooth and long with the liquorice warmth staying well after the glass is down.
