About this wine
Latour is the most consistent of the five first growths and the longest lived. The estate withdrew from the en primeur system in 2012 and now releases its wines only when it judges them ready to drink, which no other first growth does.
Decant at least two hours before pouring, longer for young vintages.
Tasting notes
A deep, enchanting garnet hue. An exquisite range of aromas from cassis and blackcurrant to truffle and graphite. The palate shows black fruit carried on refined tannins, with a harmonious and enduring finish that speaks to remarkable ageing potential. Latour is famously austere and closed in youth and needs decades rather than years. The heart of the estate is l'Enclos, the walled vineyard beside the Gironde estuary, and only fruit from there goes into the Grand Vin.

The producer
Château Latour is one of the five first growths of Bordeaux, classified in 1855, and takes its name from the tower that stands in its vineyard. It lies at the southern edge of Pauillac on deep gravel beside the Gironde estuary. Since 2012 the estate has released its wines only when they are approaching drinkability rather than selling them as futures.
