White Pessac-Léognan is one of the most underrated categories in fine wine, and Smith Haut Lafitte makes one of the best. Sauvignon Blanc led, barrel fermented, and capable of ageing for twenty years.
Tasting Notes
An aromatic bouquet of white peach, grapefruit and lemon zest, accented by floral notes of acacia and hints of flint. Vibrant and full bodied on the palate, with juicy citrus, ripe pear and a subtle touch of vanilla and toasted hazelnut from oak ageing. The finish is long, crisp and mineral driven, showing remarkable balance and finesse. The small proportion of Sauvignon Gris in the blend is unusual and adds weight and exotic fruit character.

About the Producer
Château Smith Haut Lafitte lies in Pessac-Léognan, south of the city of Bordeaux. Daniel and Florence Cathiard bought the run-down property in 1990 and rebuilt it, farming organically, building an on-site cooperage and adding the Les Sources de Caudalie hotel and the vinothérapie spa that grew into the Caudalie skincare business. It is a Cru Classé de Graves for both its red and its white.
