Description

An exceptionally rare sweet wine from Christian Binner's Kaefferkopf Grand Cru vineyard in Alsace — Muscat grapes affected by botrytis (noble rot), hand-harvested late in the season, spontaneously fermented without added sulphur, and aged in old oak foudres to produce a wine of extraordinary richness and complexity.

Tasting Notes
Rich golden colour. Intense aromas of dried apricot, honey, orange peel, and floral notes define the nose. The palate carries candied citrus, honeycomb, cinnamon, and nutmeg, with a sweet character balanced by the natural acidity of the Kaefferkopf granite soils. Sweet, but with the complexity and precision that comes from biodynamic farming and zero intervention. A wine for contemplation.

Quick Facts

  • Grape: Muscat (Selection de Grains Nobles, botrytis-affected berries)
  • Origin: France, Alsace, Kaefferkopf Grand Cru (granite soils, south-east exposure)
  • Style: Sweet natural wine, SGN, zero added sulphur, biodynamic
  • Winemaking: Late hand-harvest, botrytis-affected berries, spontaneous fermentation, no added sulphur, aged in old oak foudres

Food Pairing
Cheesecake, fruit tarts, and blue cheeses. Also extraordinary on its own at the end of a meal.

Serving
Serve chilled at 8-10°C. Best enjoyed in small quantities — the concentration is formidable.
