About this wine
Corton-Charlemagne takes its name from the emperor, who according to legend was persuaded to plant white grapes on his hill so that red wine would stop staining his beard. It remains one of the most powerful and long lived white wines in France.
Will keep and improve for twenty years and more.
Tasting notes
An elegant bouquet of citrus blossom, white peach, lemon zest and green apple, complemented by subtle notes of toasted hazelnut, brioche and wet stone minerality. Rich and concentrated on the palate yet beautifully balanced by vibrant acidity. Layers of orchard fruit, honey, almond and flinty minerality unfold gracefully, leading to a long, refined and complex finish. Wines from the Corton hill are famously closed and austere in youth and reward long cellaring more than almost any other white Burgundy.
Goes with
Lobster, scallops, turbot, roast chicken with cream sauce, truffle dishes, and aged Comté.
