Partida Creus SM Tinto from Tarragona, Catalonia — a 100% Sumoll natural red from the Penedès, with a lovely dank and sappy depth of dark fruit, plenty of Mediterranean spices, a certain freshness prevailing over the variety's thick-skinned potential for heaviness, rounded out nicely by time in barrel without overpowering the wine.
Tasting Notes
Sumoll is a red grape native to Penedès, here given the Partida Creus treatment — which means the wine has life, vibrancy, and is generous with the pleasure factor. Dark, thick-skinned Sumoll is capable of very heavy tannic wines, but here a certain freshness prevails. The fruit has a lovely dank, sappy depth with plenty of spice coming through to finish. A bit of time in barrel rounds it out without overpowering. A delicious, decidedly Mediterranean natural red.
