Description

Dario Princic's Pinot Grigio in its most powerful form, a single-variety orange wine from Oslavia fermented in open vats and aged for years in old local wood, producing a wine of extraordinary concentration, texture, and spiced complexity.

Tasting Notes

Deep amber with copper tones. The nose is complex and powerful with aromas of dried apricot, orange peel, spiced honey, smoked almonds, and a rich, evolved depth from extended lees ageing. On the palate it is full bodied and tannic, with a remarkable textural grip, a warming alcohol, and a very long, savoury, mineral finish. A wine for contemplation.

Quick Facts

  • Grape: 100% Pinot Grigio (Sivi in Friulian dialect)
  • Origin: Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia (Oslavia, Collio)
  • Style: Orange wine, extended skin maceration (20+ days), organic since 1988, aged in old local wood, unfiltered

Food Pairing

Outstanding with aged hard cheeses, offal, roast pork with herbs, complex game dishes, and dishes with truffle or mushroom. A serious wine that demands serious food.

About the Producer

Dario Princic has been making wine in the village of Oslavia on the Italian-Slovenian border since 1993, long before the term "natural wine" existed. Working 10 hectares of steeply terraced clay-limestone vineyards, he farms organically and uses extended skin macerations of 8 to 45 days to produce wines of extraordinary complexity and individuality. Alongside neighbours Radikon and Gravner, Dario helped establish Oslavia as one of the most important addresses in the global orange wine movement. He calls himself an "artisan of wine," and his wines are found on the world's finest restaurant lists.
