About this wine
An unusual skin-contact rosé from Christian Binner in Alsace, made from Gewurztraminer with extended maceration, technically a rosé but with the amber hue, aromatic richness, and textural grip of an orange wine.
Give it 15 minutes to open up and evolve in the glass.
Tasting notes
Pale amber-rose in the glass. The nose is immediately Gewurztraminer: lychee, rose petal, ginger, and spice, given depth and complexity by the skin contact. On the palate it is dry and textural with a pleasant grippy tannin, the Gewurztraminer aromatics in full bloom, and a long, savoury, spiced finish. A wine that confounds expectations in the most pleasurable way.
Goes with
Spiced lamb, Moroccan tagine, aged Munster cheese, and dishes with ginger or cardamom. A genuinely versatile food wine once you accept it on its own terms.
