Description

A genuinely unusual wine from Mas de Daumas Gassac: a low-alcohol frizzante rosé made from free-run juice of Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre, fermented in closed tanks to retain the natural CO2, with all the freshness of fruit juice and the depth of the estate behind it.

Tasting Notes
Fine lively bubbles, smooth and fruity on the nose with red berry and a touch of floral character. The palate is fresh, light, and almost playful given the estate it comes from. Low alcohol (around 8%) and lively acidity make it dangerously drinkable. This is the Gassac team cutting loose.

Quick Facts

  • Grapes: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Mourvèdre, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon, Petit Manseng, Muscat
  • Origin: France, Languedoc (Aniane, white Lutetian limestone and argilo-calcaire soils)
  • Style: Rosé frizzante, low alcohol, tank-fermented
  • Winemaking: Manual harvest, fully destemmed, immediate bleeding of Cabernet Sauvignon, free-run juices fermented in closed tanks to retain fermenting gas, 3 to 4 months in closed stainless steel

Food Pairing
Aperitif with nibbles, anchovies, olives, quiche Lorraine, and most light desserts.

Serving
Serve well chilled at 6-8°C. Best enjoyed young and fresh.

About the Producer
Mas de Daumas Gassac was established by Aimé and Véronique Guibert in Aniane, Languedoc, after a Bordeaux soil scientist identified their limestone-rich land as having exceptional grape-growing potential akin to Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Farming organically since 1974, the estate has become one of southern France's most celebrated and unconventional producers, earning the nickname "the Lafite of the Languedoc." Their second label, Moulin de Gassac, was created in the 1990s to produce fun, accessible wines from the surrounding countryside in partnership with local growers, with vinification closely overseen by the Guibert family.
