Description

Fatalone's flagship Primitivo, aged for 24 months in total across stainless steel and large Slavonic oak, a wine of dark intensity and massive acidity that rewards serious cellaring and has earned 96 points from Doctor Wine in recent vintages.

Tasting Notes

Ruby red with slight burgundy hues. The nose is complex and evocative with aromas of very ripe dark fruit, prune, fig, raisin, leather, tobacco, and sweet spice, with slightly toasted wood notes and a balsamic lift. On the palate it is full bodied, rich in minerality and freshness, with a balanced smooth character showing black cherry and plum tending to velvety, with clove and cocoa spice. The finish is long and distinctive, with the toasted almond aftertaste that makes Gioia del Colle Primitivo unique.

About the Producer

Fatalone is a family estate in the Gioia del Colle region of Puglia, with roots going back to the 19th century. The first bottles under the Fatalone label were produced in 1987 by the Petrera family, who had long sold their wine in bulk. Certified organic and biodynamic, the estate uses only indigenous yeasts, applies music therapy during barrel ageing, and is powered entirely by solar energy, making it a zero-emission winery. Their Primitivo is widely regarded as one of the benchmark expressions of the Gioia del Colle appellation.
