Description

An approachable, fruit-forward Cahors Malbec from one of the appellation's top organic estates, made for everyday pleasure rather than long ageing, with juicy dark fruit and no oak in sight.

Tasting Notes

Dark red in the glass. The nose is very fruity, both powerful and elegant, with aromas of blackberries, small red fruits, and a fresh mineral note. On the palate it is round, soft, and generous, with great fruit intensity and a clean, approachable finish. This is Cahors Malbec without the intimidation factor.

Quick Facts

  • Grape: 100% Malbec
  • Origin: France, South West France, Cahors AOC
  • Style: Dry organic red, unoaked
  • Winemaking: Full destemming, short maceration, fermentation at 20°C in stainless steel, light filtration before bottling, no sulphur added in vinification

Food Pairing

Great with grilled meats, pizza, pasta, and cheese. An honest, versatile everyday red that suits almost any table.

Serving

Serve at 16-18°C. No need to decant, this is an easy-drinking wine ready to pour and enjoy.

About the Producer

Chateau du Cedre is a family estate in the Cahors appellation of southwest France, founded in the 1950s when Léon Verhaeghe planted vines on the poor stony terraces of the Lot valley. His son Charles developed the estate in the 1970s, and since 1988 brothers Pascal and Jean-Marc Verhaeghe have run it with meticulous precision, banning all herbicides from 2000 and achieving organic certification in 2012. Pascal and Jean-Marc studied in Burgundy, California, and Bordeaux, and their influence shows in wines that are polished, terroir-driven, and remarkably age-worthy. Today the fourth generation, Jules and Robin, are joining the estate.
