Description

A refined, balanced Pinot Noir from the Languedoc grown on rich clay-limestone soils, with candied cherry, light roast, and soft tannins that make this one of the south's most elegant expressions of the grape.

Tasting Notes

Light ruby in the glass. The nose is complex and delicate, with aromas of candied cherry, light roasted hints, and a subtle mocha note typical of good Pinot. On the palate it is mouth-watering and fruit-forward, with abundant cherry fruit, beautiful freshness, and soft, silky tannins. A balanced and fine Pinot that drinks well from the moment it is opened.

Quick Facts

  • Grape: 100% Pinot Noir
  • Origin: France, Languedoc (IGP Pays d'Oc, Cournonterral)
  • Style: Dry red, sustainably farmed
  • Winemaking: Traditional vinification, daily pump-overs, 5-day maceration at moderate temperature to preserve fruit, 6 months maturation in stainless steel

Food Pairing

A natural match for tuna, crispy duck, grilled salmon, and asparagus. Light enough to work with richer fish dishes as well as poultry.

Serving

Serve at 14-16°C. This wine is at its best slightly cool, which preserves the freshness and fruit character.

About the Producer

Mas de Daumas Gassac was established by Aimé and Véronique Guibert in Aniane, Languedoc, after a Bordeaux soil scientist identified their limestone-rich land as having exceptional grape-growing potential akin to Burgundy's Côte d'Or. Farming organically since 1974, the estate has become one of southern France's most celebrated and unconventional producers, earning the nickname "the Lafite of the Languedoc." Their second label, Moulin de Gassac, was created in the 1990s to produce fun, accessible wines from the surrounding countryside in partnership with local growers, with vinification closely overseen by the Guibert family.
