Description

A complex, multi-variety field blend from old vine parcels in the Minervois highlands, capturing the full diversity of ancient Languedoc grape varieties in one deeply expressive bottle.

Tasting Notes

Deep ruby with a complex, powerful nose of black fruit, spice, cassis, and a distinctive garrigue and dark chocolate depth. On the palate it is rich and silky in texture, with layers of dark fruit, firm mineral acidity, and super-smooth tannins. The finish is long, elegant, and fragrant. A wine of real character and concentration from one of the Languedoc's most serious natural wine estates.

Quick Facts

  • Grapes: Carignan, Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Counoise, Cabernet Sauvignon, Terret Noir, and others (field blend)
  • Origin: France, Languedoc, Minervois (Saint-Jean-de-Minervois, 300m altitude)
  • Style: Dry organic red, old vine parcels, limestone and clay soils
  • Winemaking: Organically farmed since 1996, low yields, minimal intervention

Food Pairing

Made for rich, slow-cooked dishes: lamb shoulder, beef daube, wild boar, and aged hard cheeses. A wine for serious meals.

Serving

Serve at 16-18°C. Decant for 20 minutes to let the complexity fully open.

About the Producer

Clos du Gravillas is the project of Nicole and John Bojanowski, a Franco-American couple who purchased their 8-hectare estate in Saint-Jean-de-Minervois in 1996. Perched on a limestone and gravel plateau at almost 300 metres altitude, between the Saint Chinian and Minerve canyons, they farm organically with a focus on biodiversity and soil health. John's background in ecology shapes the estate's philosophy, and they work with 18 different grape varieties, including many ancient and forgotten Languedoc varieties. Long associated with the natural wine movement, Clos du Gravillas is distributed by Les Caves de Pyrene and found on some of the world's finest restaurant lists.
