Description

A complex, floral, and layered orange wine from the Vipava Valley in Slovenia, blending indigenous Malvasia, Welschriesling, and Zelen with five days of skin maceration and ageing in concrete eggs and old foudre, producing a wine of remarkable depth and salty freshness.

Tasting Notes

Deep golden amber with excellent clarity. The nose is intensely aromatic and complex, with aromas of wisteria, lavender, orange zest, ripe peach, and apple cider. On the palate it is full bodied and textural, with a chalky mineral core, savoury herbal notes, and a long, salty finish. A wine that bridges the gap between the Adriatic and the Alps with remarkable elegance.

About the Producer

Burja Estate was founded by Primoz Lavrencic in 2009 after inheriting old family vineyards in the Vipava Valley, a region whose winemaking history stretches back to at least Celtic times. The Lavrencic family has roots in the valley dating to 1499. Working biodynamically with indigenous varieties from the Adriatic coast and the Valley, including Zelen, Malvasia, Welschriesling, and Rebula, Primoz has become one of the most celebrated natural wine producers in Slovenia, his wines finding their way onto the world's finest restaurant lists and wine bars.
