Description

A serious, long-aged Muscadet Sur Lie from the La Pentiere vineyard, made by Pierre-Marie and Marie Luneau-Papin from 40-year-old Melon de Bourgogne vines on granodiorite soils and aged nine months on lees for the full, textured style that puts Muscadet in a different conversation entirely.

Tasting Notes
Straw gold with good depth for Muscadet. Fresh cut apple and pear on the nose, followed by spicy, leesy notes and a pleasant complexity that comes from the long sur lie ageing. The palate is mouth-filling with real weight and length. This is Muscadet that challenges the assumptions about the appellation.

Quick Facts

  • Grape: 100% Melon de Bourgogne (40-year-old vines, west-northwest facing, granodiorite soils)
  • Origin: France, Loire Valley, Muscadet Sevre et Maine Sur Lie AOC (Le Landreau)
  • Style: Dry organic white, 9 months sur lie in underground glass-tiled vat
  • Winemaking: Manual harvest, pressed immediately, wild yeast fermentation without temperature control, 9 months sur lie in 80hl underground vat, full malolactic, filtered but not fined, 1.5g/hl sulphur at bottling

Food Pairing
Brittany oysters, plateau de fruits de mer, lightly smoked trout, and spring vegetable salads. Muscadet's traditional home at the seafood table.

Serving
Serve at 8-10°C. Best drunk within 5 to 7 years — this is a Muscadet that ages.

About the Producer
Pierre Luneau-Papin is a Muscadet estate with roots in Le Landreau dating to the early 18th century, created in the 1990s when the Luneau and Papin families united. Now run biodynamically by Pierre-Marie and Marie across 20 diverse plots, the estate is widely considered one of the finest in the appellation, producing wines that show Muscadet as capable of real complexity and longevity.
