Rioja Crianza is a legal category as much as a style: at least two years of ageing, one of them in oak. Ramón Bilbao use American barrels, which is the traditional Rioja choice and the source of that unmistakable coconut and vanilla note.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of ripe red fruit, cherry and plum, interwoven with vanilla, coconut and subtle hints of dried herbs and spice from the oak. Smooth and medium bodied on the palate, offering redcurrant, blackberry and a touch of liquorice, balanced by well integrated tannins and refreshing acidity. A gentle smokiness and a whisper of balsamic emerge on the finish. Fourteen months in American oak, then further time in bottle.
