About this wine
A Cavallotto Dolcetto from the Vigna Scot single vineyard on the Bricco Boschis estate, showing this often-underappreciated Piedmontese grape at its most serious: aged in Slavonian oak and cement, and vinified with the same care as the estate's Barolo.
Open 10 minutes before serving.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby with a purple edge. Rich on the nose and palate with plum, cherry, liquorice, earthy mineral, nutmeg, and balsamic notes leading to a long finish. High tannins for Dolcetto but smooth with it, thanks to the quality of fruit and careful vinification. A proper Piedmontese red.
Goes with
Cured ham, salami, pasta, pizza, and seasoned cheeses. The ideal every-night Piedmontese bottle.

The producer
Cavallotto is a family estate that has owned the entire Bricco Boschis hill in Castiglione Falletto since 1928, making it one of Barolo's most celebrated monopoles. Three siblings, Alfio, Giuseppe, and Laura Cavallotto, now run the estate with the same traditional methods their parents used, farming organically, fermenting with indigenous yeasts, and ageing in large Slavonian oak botti rather than small French barrels. The first bottles under the Cavallotto label were produced in 1948, and the estate has been a standard-bearer for traditional, artisan Barolo ever since.
